The purpose of the CASWS is to devolve funding to individual recognised primary, special school and post-primary school authorities to undertake small-scale building works which can be carried out during the summer months or at other times that avoid disrupting the operation of the school.

These special classes will now be known as Special Classes for Children with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) or Speech Sound Disorder (SSD).

It also helps to ensure that all children and young people enrolled in a special class have a positive and inclusive educational experience that is tailored to their strengths and needs.
